Renault Rafale review

We drove the new Renault Rafale Hybrid on Irish roads.

Pros: Striking design, smooth hybrid performance, spacious cabin.

Cons: Infotainment could be more intuitive, rear visibility

Renault Rafale Hybrid Design

Renault say that the new Rafale is 'designed to reinvent performance' and was inspired by the1934 extraordinary racing aircraft, the Caudron-Renault Rafale. The 2024 Renault Rafale SUV Coupe definitely stands out, with a bold design featuring sharp lines and a distinctive diamond design front grille. Its coupe-SUV silhouette is eye-catching from the rear, which is complimented by futuristic LED headlights and a panoramic sunroof, showcasing a modern design on the road.

Renault Rafale Hybrid Interior

Inside, the Rafale offers a spacious and well-appointed cabin. The sports seats with side reinforcements combine comfort and support. The backrests feature the Alpine logo which lights up and beats like a heart as soon as the driver approaches the vehicle. The upholstery is also enhanced by blue, white and red stitching.

The digital instrument cluster is clear and customizable, while the central touchscreen is responsive but could benefit from more intuitive menus. The boot space is generous, making it practical for families.

Renault Rafale Hybrid Performance & Drive

The 200hp E-Tech Full Hybrid model that we tested, offers up to 1,100 kms of hybrid driving, depending on conditions. The hybrid powertrain combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor, delivering smooth and responsive performance. The Rafale handles well for its size, with light steering and good body control. The suspension is tuned for comfort, absorbing bumps and rough surfaces with ease. In urban settings, the Rafale is impressively quiet, and the hybrid system transitions seamlessly between electric and petrol power. On the motorway, it cruises comfortably, though rear visibility is somewhat limited due to the sloping roofline.

Renault Rafale Hybrid Pricing

The Renault Rafale Full Hybrid starts from €51,495 for the entry level techno spec, with espeit Apline specifications also available for an additional cost.

Carzone Verdict

The 2024 Renault Rafale is a strong contender in the hybrid SUV segment, taking a step up from the Arkana in the Renault range. It offers a stylish design, a comfortable interior, and a smooth driving experience. The rear visibility is slightly compromised due to the coupe shape, but it remains a practical and appealing choice for families and eco-conscious drivers alike.
