What taxes on importing a van from the North?

What taxes on importing a van from the North?

What taxes are due on importing a 1.6 van from Northern Ireland into Southern Ireland?

Our answer:

Hi John,

Assuming the van has been imported correctly to the North, and used there for a reasonable period of time (three months seems to be the accepted minimum) by someone other than the dealer that imported it then you should only be liable for VRT. Depending on the van, it's either 13.3 per cent of the OMSP (the Open Market Selling Price according to Revenue) or a flat €200.

You should of course check this yourself with Revenue.
