Thoughts on the Opel Zafira?

Hi, my family is growing and l am very tempted to buy in Mpv. So far the one l like the most is the Opel/Vauxhall Zafira. I like the car flexibility and interiors with the AGR seats.... etc. Also it is way more convenient than competitors such as VW Touran or C4 GP. My only concerns are about Opel/Vauxhall reliability and the fact that now the company is part of the French PSA group. The latest Zafira is still a GM product....in the future, what about spear parts...etc? Your opinion? Thank you

Our answer:

Hello David,

Very difficult to predict – PSA has made assurances about the future of Opel/Vauxhall, but there’s also a growing feeling that there’s not much space within the French giant’s group as it is for another mainstream marque, as it already has Peugeot, Citroen and DS under its wing. However, Opels are so popular and multitudinous that spare parts supply shouldn’t be an issue for many, many years yet; even if official components dry up, for whatever reason, plenty of aftermarket or pattern parts are available for these sorts of cars.

As to its reliability, Opel doesn’t have the best record and some generations of Zafira have had some well-documented problems, but Zafiras are mainly dependable family cars. Nevertheless, we’re surprised you’re not more enamoured with the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, which – in our eyes – is probably the best large current MPV you can get.
