Thoughts on the 04 BMW X5?

Can you give me a review of 04bmwx5

Our answer:

Hi Padraig,

The 2004 BMW X5 is a late model of the original, first-generation SUV. Built in the USA, it will employ either a 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel – by far the most likely option here in Ireland – or alternatively a 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine, or a petrol V8; this will be rated at 4.4 or 4.8 litres. To drive, the X5 Mk1 is very car-like and by the standards of modern-day premium SUVs, it’s not absolutely huge; interior space is good and the dashboard layout is from a pre-iDrive era of BMWs, so it’ll feel a bit dated, but it will all be laid out intelligently. Inscrutable maintenance throughout its life will be key to its reliability (or otherwise) going forward, but – if it has it – watch for leaks from the optional sunroof and check it rides well, as despite it being small by modern SUV measures, the X5 is still a big, heavy car and so it will be hard on suspension bushes, springs, dampers and brakes and so on. That era of BMW also seems to be starting to display issues with rust, so check all its arches and sills carefully.
