Can you explain to me the difference between the different types of Skoda superb out there. Within the 2012/13, 1.6L range there seems to be a greenline, ambition and elegance I can't tel the difference in spec. Can you help me out? Cheers!
Hi Richard,
Ambition and Elegance are just different trim levels of the same car, in much the same way that back in the day we had identifiers like L, GL and then GLX to indicate which models had more equipment and desirable features fitted as standard. In the case of the Skoda Superb Mk2 of 2012/2013, Elegance was the higher trim level of the two, so cars in that grade ought to have more equipment on them; it’s not a hard and fast rule, though, as optional extras fitted to a car when new can often skew its kit list on the used market to make it look as plush as the next model up the chain.
The Greenline, however, was an eco-special version of the Superb. It used the same 1.6-litre turbodiesel engine as in the regular cars, while there were aerodynamic tweaks, energy recuperation systems and an automatic stop-start feature fitted too. The suspension was dropped 15mm and the Superb Greenline was fitted with low-rolling resistance tyres. All of the above improved its fuel economy to 67.3mpg (4.2 litres/100km) and dropped its CO2 emissions to just 109g/km, but the Greenline is not the most pleasant second-gen Superb to drive, by any stretch of the imagination. We’d advocate going for the Elegance, if you can.
