There's no clear-cut answer there, though if you spend a lot of that annual 15,000km at motorway-like speeds, then diesel probably still makes sense. If you're just pootling around most of the time, then I feel the petrol model would be best as it should come with lower maintenance bills and be less polluting. At those speeds, there won't be much of a difference in fuel consumption.

The only other consideration is whether you need the towing ability of the diesel. And of course, try to test drive both to make sure you like the one you're going for, as they drive quite differently.
