I have a 2011 1.8TSI VW Passat. I have noticed that when it reaches full operating temperature it starts to sound little like a diesel when on idle (i can hear it inside). Is there a problem with the engine? It has 71000 miles done and I did the full service at the VW garage 2 months ago and they did not notice anything unusual but reading forums it looks like cam belt tensioner?
Hi Adrian,
That car's engine should have a timing chain, not a belt, so perhaps it is that. There are known issues with the gearboxes as well that get noisy. Our best advice is to bring the car along to a good mechanic and have them listen to it.
