Issues with a BMW 118d's timing chain...

My Daughter bought a car from Michael Moores Portarington November 2023 a bmw 118D with just over 60,000km it now at 98000km and the timing chain has gone we now notice the timing chain was change @ 30,000 km in 2018. Is this normal and should we have been told about the timing chain going at 30,000km ?? Should we have been told about this when we purchase the car

Our answer:

Hi Frankie,

That BMW engine is known to sometimes cause major issues with its timing chain, but I am very surprised to hear that the replacement chain only lasted 60,000km. That's not normal, but unless the repair or the car is still covered under warranty I'm not sure what comeback you have, unfortunately. And there's no onus on any car seller to point out what engine repair work has been done in the past, I'm afraid. Even if you had been told that when buying the car, would you have worried about it? I don't think I would have.
