I want to sell my UK car in Ireland...

I have a uk registered car and looking to sell it in the Republic of Ireland later this year as I am emigrating. How can I do this please as although I am uk based I have a holiday home in Ireland?. If someone wanted to buy my car in Ireland how do they go about it?.. The car is a 2009 plate so not sure it incurs vrt?.. Thank you .

Our answer:

Hi Michael,

Put simply, you have to register the car in Ireland yourself before you can sell it here - or you sell it in the UK. VRT is payable on all imports regardless of age, though you may be exempt from VRT if your normal place of residence is in the UK and you've owner the car for long enough. Best bet is to get in touch with Revenue to discuss the situation.
