How to sell my UK-reg car in Ireland?

Dear sir/madam, I moved to UK from Ireland 2.5yrs ago and brought my Irish car (Nissan Qashqai +2), have since re-registered it with DVLA UK. I want to sell it in Ireland as its originally Irish car but now on UK reg. Wondering how I can do a quick sale to save the hassle. No Irish taxes on car were claimed when moving to UK. Only 52K miles, manual, full Service hx, Clean car, well maintained. Please give some advice. Thanks. Herbie

Our answer:

Hi Herbie,

It depends on the age of the car, but your best bet might be to advertise it within the trade. Irish dealers are often looking to source good used stock from the UK, especially for the 2010-2013 period when new car sales here were so depressed, so it might be that your car will catch their eye. Selling it yourself into Ireland from the UK could be tricky, as technically a car should be re-registered and have the VRT paid on it before it can be sold here. It could also be worth contacting a car search firm, such as Palmdale, as they independently source cars in the UK for Irish clients.
