The car must be re-registered in Ireland by the owner before it is sold here. If not, and the car has been brought in undeclared, there will be additional costs to pay on top of the VRT, NOx levy and possibly VAT. We would not advise anyone to buy a UK-registered car before looking into all of the details and potential costs. That will vary considerably by car depending on its origin, value, CO2 rating and NOx emissions.
