Belt or chain in my Golf?

Belt or chain in my Golf?

Does VW 1.4 MK6 golf' have a timing belt or timing chain? if the timing belt/chain was made at 90000 miles, what should I check to know there is not any issue?

Our answer:

Hi Vanessa,

The regular 1.4-litre engine has a timing belt. The recommendation is that the belt is checked first at 90,000km and then every 30,000km after that. A mechanic will then advise whether it requires changing.

If it's the 1.4 TSI engine you have, then that uses a timing chain.
