With the departure of the CC, Volkswagen came to the Geneva Motor show with their long-awaited replacement – the Arteon. Mimicking the Sport Coupe Concept car from the 2015 show, it’s set to focus on dapper looks and interior space. While it is set to replace the old CC, Volkswagen have emphasised it’s a more upmarket model, designed to rival the BMW 4-Series Grand Coupe.
Its new design is set to be applied across all the VW flagship models, with the five-door coupe styling sitting on Volkswagen’s new multi-billion Euro MQB platform giving a view of what we can expect in the future. Its large bonnet slopes down into the new arches and new LED lights, which also seem to be integrated into the front grille. At 4,862mm in length, you can expect the interior to be extremely roomy and comfortable.
3 interior themes are set to come with the Arteon; Black, Dark Grey & a mix of Dark/Light Grey. And you’ll get a host of optional styling extras to choose from, like Alcantara and leather upholstery, Fine Birch wood trim & ambient lighting. One of the most striking additions is the long horizontal air vent that runs the length of the dashboard, which Volkswagen says is designed to “cocoon” you into the front seats.
And from the front seats, you’ll also get the option of VW’s new Active Info Display, a high resolution screen giving you direct information on driving, navigation and driving assistance functions. To keep you entertained, Volkswagen have introduced a new infotainment system, with screen sizes ranging from 6.5” up to 9.2” with gesture control, depending on the trim you choose. And with features like new-generation adaptive cruise control, you can sit back and relax while you listen to your favourite music.
The 2017 Volkswagen Arteon is set to launch in Ireland this June, ready for the 172 season.
